Water Facts That Are More Myth Than Reality

Water MythsI thought I’d take a few minutes to share a number of interesting water facts that we always hear and read about. The thing is, these are actually more myths than real facts. So, if you happen to read about them anywhere, bear in mind that these claims do not carry a lot of weight in terms of reliability.

1. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

2. A mild dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3%.

3. You can shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of dieters with just a single glass of water.

4. The #1 trigger of daytime fatigue is lack of water.

5. You can significantly ease joint and back pain by drinking 8-10 glasses of water every day.

6. If your total body water drops by 2%, you will suffer fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page. (That’s why I always have a large glass of water right next to me when I’m working on the computer…)

7. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

8. Bottled water is safer to drink than tap water.
